In Under the Wire!

These are friends of mine - we met while working for the past two years on a common "project". We have talked for a while about doing a family portrait for them, but it had to wait until after Thanksgiving - so we were just able to squeeze in under the wire and make the holiday deadline. :-)

It was their idea to do the black drop with black shirts, and I absolutely love how these are turning out. I am excited to share these here while I work on proofing the rest of their selections. Location, Location, Location

AND the cutest baby boy you could ever hope to see! What a great session - I was so excited that this mom took me to a location I had never seen. I am sure to bring other clients to this old farm in the future. And this little guy was an absolute DOLL. He was so happy, and did so well - even though it wasn't exactly warm out.

Hot Mama!

How much fun is it that the mother of one of my portfolio high school seniors called for her own session? As silly as she felt posing (and I know she did!) the images look fantastic and I couldn't wait to post a preview. Enjoy!

I just love working with high school seniors. They are so full of promise, with every possibility still ahead of them.

I have been blown away by the seniors I have photographed this year, and this one was no exception - gorgeous (really really gorgeous), bright, and sweet - this young lady has limitless opportunities ahead of her.

New Location

I am so glad this family suggested this location. It was somewhere I have been before, but never on the side we used for our session. I never thought about using it for portraits, but it was so beautiful!

Minis...

This weekend I did a group of mini sessions. This is something I have not done in quite a while, and it was great fun. We chased the shade all morning long with our setee, but in the end, I think that made for variety in the photos. Here is a preview, in absolutely no particular order. I just started pulling and proofing some examples so that there would be a variety of shots for the preview. Nor is there any rhyme or reason to which ones I am showing here in black and white. All images will be shown both in color and b/w in the gallery.

Thanks to everyone who came out, it was a good time!

Third time...

This is another repeat client - I first met them at minisessions at a boutique toy shop, then moved onto photograph both boys at home the following year - and now the first session including their little sister. This is the best part of my job - getting the chance to follow kids as they grow. It's so much fun. Here's a little preview of our session today - the gallery will be in the works this week!

Sometimes it Just Clicks!

I love it when I get to a session and find out that the ideas the parents have really, truly, match my style and vision. This was one of those - I knew it as soon as Mom said "I hope you don't think it's weird for us all to pile in the bed!"

Beautifully Pensive

I always like to emphasize that in my opinion, smiley faces are not necessary for a beautiful session. I hate for parents to stress over whether little Bobby or Susie is smiling for the camera, and would much rather have everyone relax and let the session be what it "is" on any given day. OK, within reason. Screaming tantrums generally still don't work. ;-)

But this is the perfect example of a little girl who cooperated beautifully, wore a mostly-serious expression, and had a mom who wasn't worried about the fact that she just didn't feel like smiling at this moment in time. The session is beautiful, timeless, and I love these pensive, big-eyed expressions that she gave me!

Muse-in-the-Making

This was a second session with this little one this year, and AGAIN she amazed me with how easy she is to work with. Smile, smile, smile, giggle, smile - that's how the session went.
